A return to the top of the pass today –
basically straight through to brekky stop from yesterday. Today the Chinese Monal showed
well to the delight of all. To top it off we also saw a small group of White-eared Pheasants high on a distant hill top. This allowed good views through the scope. We reheard the Chestnut throated Monal Partridge but they did not appear. We also heard Koklass Pheasant but the bid never showed despite great efforst to tape it in to view.
We also played the usual game and called in a mix of passerine species including warblers, Rosefinches and tits.

We soon stopped for a basic breakfast of a salami sandwich and the obligatory coffee.

After breakfast we went driving down the other side of the pass, following the river down in to the valley before stopping at what appeared to be an idyllic village. The houses were neat and well cared for and their vegetable gardens excellent and well attended. The surroundng fields also were filled with crops. Walking around here produced the usual common species; Green backed tit, Plumbeous Redstart, Grey Wagtail, Brown-flanked Bush Warbler etc. We also got a lifer of the Chinese endemic - Slaty Bunting. A few other nice species as well - especially Indian blue Robin. A few of the fellas opted for a steep walk up the hill chasing the enigmatic Blackthroat but little was seen and most of teh group occupied themselves walking and birding around the village area.

Lunch today was noodles in a local cafe, washed down with tea. After lunch it was
circa 2 hours drive home; by this time the weather had turned bad with steady rain and mist making birding very difficult.
